Project Description

The IMPACT project aims to boost green skills in Somalia, focusing on renewable energy, circular economy, and sustainable agribusiness. It addresses the shortage of skilled workers in these sectors, crucial for Somalia’s shift to a sustainable economy. By enhancing Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) centers and strengthening public-private coordination, the project aims to build a workforce that promotes green growth, equitable jobs, and climate resilience. The project prioritizes marginalized groups, including women, youth, and rural communities, while expanding access to renewable energy, advancing the circular economy, and developing sustainable agri-food value chains. The project aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Somalia's National Development Plan by fostering sustainable growth through green skills in renewable energy, circular economy, and sustainable agriculture. It aims to improve resilience and social inclusion in marginalized communities, supporting Somalia's transition to a green economy.

Project Objective

Increase Access to Green Skills: Provide 12,500 youth and adults with marketable green skills in renewable energy, circular economy, and sustainable agribusiness.
Enhance Institutional Capacity: Strengthen the capacity of 25 TVET centers and professional technical secondary schools to deliver high-quality green skills education.
Promote Public-Private Partnerships: Establish 50 public-private partnerships to align training programs with market needs and provide job opportunities for graduates.
Support Marginalized Groups: Ensure 50% of beneficiaries are female and include persons with disabilities and internally displaced persons (IDPs).
Develop Green Skills Curricula: Create and implement new curricula and certification programs for green skills, incorporating both online and blended learning formats.
Foster Innovation and Entrepreneurship: Establish Green Innovation Labs and a Green Skills Incubator Program to support the development and scaling of sustainable business ideas.
